What Is Sports Massage?
Sports massage has been used for years to help athletes recover from injuries, improve performance, and prevent future issues. It often includes deep tissue work, stretching, and friction techniques.
But what I offer isn’t massage therapy—it’s something more effective. I use the Coaching The Body® method, which integrates bodywork, trigger point therapy and neuromuscular retraining to deliver fast recovery and lasting relief.
Many athletes come to me after other treatments have failed. The CTB approach is highly targeted and based on a modern understanding of referred pain patterns and functional movement. We don’t just work the painful area—we identify and treat the neuromuscular dysfunctions that occur from acute and chronic muscle overloads.
Why My Approach is Different
Most sports massage feels good temporarily—but it rarely addresses the true cause of pain and dysfunction. That’s because it focuses on the painful area, not the source of the problem.
My approach is different. I integrate traditional sports massage techniques with the Coaching The Body® (CTB®) methodology to create what I call Sports Massage Plus—an advanced, neuromuscular strategy for real athletic recovery and performance.
- Advanced trigger point therapy
- Optimal movement assessments
- Neuromuscular retraining
- Client education and self-care plans
The result? Longer-lasting relief, better mobility, and stronger performance—without unnecessary discomfort.

Traditional sports massage focuses on pressure and short-term relief. Coaching The Body® bodywork traces pain and dysfunction to their neuromuscular roots—often in muscles you wouldn’t expect.
By combining clinical techniques, movement retraining, and pain science, I deliver a session that actually changes how your body moves and feels. This is "Sports Massage Plus".
Real Results From Real Athletes
Whether you’re a weekend warrior or elite competitor, CTB® bodywork delivers results. Here’s what just a few of Doug’s athletic clients had to say:

Susan Niswander
IronMan Champion
When I first came to Doug, I could not move my left shoulder without pain and could not swim. With his help I got out of pain, was able to continue training, and not only finished the Mont-Tremblant IronMan, I won! I could not have done it without him!

Jonathon Culwell
Kung Fu - USA National Team
I'm on the national team and I'll compete internationally this year. But I was falling over at times during training because my knees would simply give out on me! Today, not only did I complete pistol squats for the first time in four years, but no crunching popping or grinding! And did I say they are not in pain at all? Are you still reading this? Go. See. Doug.

Susan Edwards
CrossFit Athlete
Doug was awesome at helping me with plantar fasciitis. My heel was killing me. I do CrossFit and I was having a hard time keeping up with these workouts. He was an expert at treating the muscles affiliated with my pain. I am finally able to run again.
Ronda Korzon, LMT
Ronda is a massage therapist that had calf and leg pain that kept her from hiking and playing pickleball. Pain solved in a single CTB® bodywork session.
